Pat Wright

Jazz has always been Pat Wright’s favorite music to
study and perform, drawn by its demanding technique,
improvisational depth, and expressive freedom. Although
rooted in jazz, Pat has been called upon over the years to
perform a wide range of musical styles.
Pat’s journey began in fifth grade, when severe asthma
prevented him from choosing a wind instrument, leaving
percussion as his best option—a choice that proved life-
defining. During high school, he earned several honors for snare drum
technique and solo performance. Influenced by legendary drummers such
as Joe Morello and Buddy Rich (including a treasured autograph Pat
received from Buddy in 1968), he went on to receive a music scholarship to
the University of Northern Iowa, where he majored in Percussion.
While at the university, Pat toured on weekends with the Bruce Young
Orchestra and later with gospel singer Sherman Andrus, former vocal
backup for Elvis Presley. After relocating to Southern California in 1992,
new opportunities quickly followed. By 1995, Pat toured and performed
with the Antelope Valley Jazz Ensemble at the Ocho Rios Jazz Festival in
Jamaica.
Following that experience, he became a regular performer with the jazz
quartet Polaris, the Latin-jazz group Fusebox, and numerous musicians
throughout the Wrightwood area, with appearances at the Lancaster
Performing Arts Center and the Palmdale Playhouse.
Today, Pat continues to stay active in the local music community,
performing with the Antelope Valley Jazz Ensemble, his church’s worship
band, and a variety of regional projects—bringing both technical
excellence and musical sensitivity to every performance.
