Vic Grady
Guitar, Bass, Voice, Piano, and Songwriting Instructor
Vic Grady has both performed and taught music professionally for over 40 years. Starting with his first band at age 13, he has played guitar, bass, and sang at hundreds of school, civic, and private functions throughout Southern California. In High School, he was heavily involved in his school’s music programs, conducting and arranging for choir and band. In the 1970s, he performed with recording artist Carl Dante, eventually touring Europe and recording several albums.
Vic attended the Southern California Conservatory of Music, where he studied piano and composition from noted television music arranger, Hal Johnson. Continuing to refine his guitar, bass, and vocal skills, he studied privately with several accomplished instructors, including local guitar legend, Gary Hoey, as well as Hollywood vocal coach, Jeffrey Allen. Vic completed his studies in music theory at College of the Canyons where he has also been a guest instructor.
As a private instructor, Vic has seen his own students enjoy enormous success. He has taught extensively throughout Southern California, establishing full-time studios in both the Antelope Valley and in Ventura. During the past several decades, several of Vic’s vocal students have been accepted into the American Idol competitions, and over 70 of his past and current guitar, bass, and voice students have recorded albums and/or perform actively.
Vic’s easy manner and flexible approach to music instruction make him an ideal choice as an instructor for all ages and ability levels. He is especially adept at getting new beginners “up and running” within a relatively short time. His motto, “Get Them Playing”, has been a guiding principle in his teaching and a promise fulfilled in the lives of hundreds of his students. Vic’s unique two-facet approach to music instruction combines: 1) fundamental music principles, sight reading, basic technique, and music theory with 2) an exciting “hands-on” program of practical music application involving the study of contemporary songs and modern stylistic elements. This double-edge approach combines elements of traditional music education with a modern, practical emphasis having two main objectives – 1) helping students to enjoy playing music and preparing them to perform confidently with other musicians, and 2) preparing students to succeed in higher level music studies as well as within the professional world, should they choose those paths. Vic carefully tailors all his instructional programs to meet the individual needs and ambitions of each student.
